Dabster Productions

Dabster Productions

Dabster Productions has been making innovative and engaging radio and podcast content for a wide range of people since January 2006.  They have studios in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London and have produced a number of shows in New York.  Company founder Richard Melvin started his career in broadcasting almost exactly 10 years ago as a volunteer at Radio Forth in Edinburgh.  He quickly moved on to the achingly trendy Beat 106 in Glasgow before accepting a position as a production trainee at BBC Radio Scotland.

Dabster Productions was established in 2006 and since then, Richard has produced over 300 hours of radio for the BBC and has produced and devised podcasts that have collectively achieved more than 5 million downloads.   Recently, Richard followed Amy Macdonald’s European arena tour for a documentary on BBC Radio Scotland.

ScreenHI has collaborated closely with Dabster on a number of projects since 2010.  The most recent was the creation of two placements for content producers and an intensive trainee role to work with them on their portfolio of commissions to make podcasts for Amnesty, E4 Udderbelly, the Cultural Olympiad and BBC.  Preceeding this they ran a two week course for ScreenHI on how to run a live radio station - Radio goNORTH 2012, a podcasting workhshop at Loopallu and Wave North Fringe Festival in 2011 as well as further placements on their Live At The Gilded Balloon Podcast production during the Edinburgh Fringe in 2011.
