Assistant Editor placement with Media Co-op

Media Co-opScreenHI and Media Co-op got their heads together in early 2012 to develop a placement opportunity on their landmark BBC ALBA documentary on the history of the Skye Bridge tolls, filming in the second half of 2012.  We were delighted to support a Traineeship for an Assistant Editor, a fantastic chance for an ambitious individual wanting to progress in the industry as an Editor.  This opportunity was specifically for a Highlands & Islands based aspiring Editor.  Catherine Weir from Lochaber successfully applied for the role and started in June 2012.

It was a Glasgow based position at the production company Media Co-op, where Catherine worked closely with the Director and Editor.  Most of the work was on the single BBC Alba documentary on the Skye Bridge toll protests, but there was also some work for Cathering on other short-form productions going through the company in the same period.  Help with archiving and the maintenance of smooth-running post-production systems were the main tasks.

Catherine kept a blog throughout her placement, from the early days of sorting out archive to going on location and managing the rushes.
