Skills for Strategic Design Consultancy

Date:  Friday 21st August 2015, 18:00-20:00
Venue:  Ironworks, Academy St, Inverness, IV1 1LX
Cost:  FREE to attend.

Research shows that there is a direct link between design and better business performance. As a result, designers’ skills are in demand, not only for traditional design work, but also within an increasingly wide range of strategic roles from advising on business processes to decision making.

Following on from the ‘Beyond the Logo’ panel discussion at this year’s XpoNorth, Iain Aitchison, Director of London-based design strategy consultancy, Plan, will share his perspective on the top skills designers need to take on more strategic roles. From being able to frame complex problems and synthesise disparate information, to facilitating multidisciplinary decision making, or developing your own design brief, Iain will share his top tips from over a decade consulting to top global firms including Bacardi, British Gas, Lenovo, Mars, Samsung, Unilever, Wrigley’s and Yamaha Motors.

This discussion session is aimed at designers who may be interested in broadening their roles, those looking to better understand how design can help develop their own ideas, and aspiring designers.

This session is delivered as part of a new network being developed for designers in the Highlands and Islands by The Glasgow School of Art and HIE.
