Over the past 3 years John has gained access to a wide range of opportunities through ScreenHi He has attended masterclasses in documentary production, development and pitching in Inverness, Sabhal Mhor Ostaig in Skye, The Scottish Documentary institute in Edinburgh and at the Docfest in Sheffield John has made frequent appearances on BBC Scotland, TV & radio panel discussions, in 1999 he presented a series of 6 unscripted face to face, half hour documentaries with famous dissenters, entitled Come Out Fighting, for Radio Scotland.
John’s first documentary film was a short called Friday Blight – a Tale of 2 Cities and featured at the 2009 Inverness Film Festival He currently has three projects in various stages of development and completion Supported and produced by ScreenHI, mentored by award winning Director Don Coutts and Editor Lindy Cameron In Bed With The Monster looks at the relationship the village of Dores has with Rockness Music Festival The second project is a human story of an ageing west coast couple The End of the Road, which has been chosen by the Scottish Documentary Institute to be developed under their Docscene programme The third is an entry for FilmG to be narrated in Gaelic about a day in the life of a prawn fisherman in the Sound of Sleat entitled The Sea Crofter.
