Honeycomb - Creative Works Programme

We have a programme of events through to the end of March 2015 designed for you and completely FREE to attend. We're talking animators, designers, band managers, musicians, filmmakers, tour managers, producers, writers, games developers and programmers to name but a few. Reserve your place or register interest now via the links under each event, priority given to those from within the catchment area.

April Programme of Events

In the Highlands of Scotland Honeycomb is being rolled out in Lochaber, Skye and Lochalsh, Argyll and Bute. The Honeycomb application process is now open to anyone in the Highlands and Islands so all the events listed below are available to businesses resident in the Highlands and Islands. Honeycomb is also being delivered in Arran and Cumbrae, North Ayrshire mainland, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway, the six southern border counties of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

1st April, Old Building, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Isle of Skye, 6 - 9pm
ANIMATION SEMINAR WITH KING ROLLO FILMS

If you are a writer, an artist, an animator or a composer with an interest in animation production come and meet the MD of King Rollo Films, Leo Nielsen. Leo aspires to have an animation series written, animated and produced on Skye, in Gaelic, within three years. This session is a general introduction to the company explaining what they are looking for and what they hope to achieve on Skye. Please do not bring along samples of your work at this stage.

Over the last 25 years King Rollo Films has produced series like Spot, Maisy, Mama Mirabelle, Humf and Poppy Cat, and they are currently developing six new projects. They use CelAction 2D animation software for their productions and will be running training courses during the year.

LIVE STREAMING WORKSHOP

Inner Ear is delivering this day-long workshop on live streaming on the 9th April, which will look at the end to end process, online platforms, technical knowhow and all you need to know to set up your own live streamed event. Inner Ear will also be live streaming the Donald MacLeod Memorial Piping Competition in Stornoway on the 10th April and will invite interested attendees of the workshop to join them behind the scenes whilst they are streaming the event, providing a 'hands on' insight into the activities involved in a live streamed production.

Apply to attend the Live Streaming Workshop on 9th April.  Attending the live event is not compulsory.

Inner Ear has been at the forefront of producing digital content since it launched one of the UK's longest running internet radio stations, Radio Magnetic, in 2001. The company has streamed numerous events including Sound To Sea - a memorable night featuring live music, aerial dance, fireworks and spectacular visuals on Glasgow’s River Clyde, the Scottish Album of the Year Award from Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom, the inaugural Shetland Jazz Festival, the Glenfiddich Piping Championship from Blair Castle and the World Pipe Band Championships from Glasgow Green.

LOCAL NEWS GATHERING FOR RADIO AND ONLINE 

In this workshop we’ll kick off with an hour of Gaelic language learning then get stuck into covering news gathering across editorial, compliance and production issues.  We’ll have broadcast journalists from BBC guiding you through the challenges and areas of concern you face when making broadcast content.

MICRO SALES PROGRAMME - DAY 2
Speaker:  Owan Wyn-Jones

Are you a start up or sole trader and need some guidance in sales and marketing? This is the second day of a two-day programme designed to cover all aspects of developing workable processes and a viable sales and marketing plan that you can use moving forward in growing your business.  If you didn't attend the first day, it doesn't preclude you from attending the second.

You should come away from this two day course with the confidence and ability to identify market opportunities and sales leads, understand your market better, use business analysis tools, understand what your USP is and develop robust sales and pitching processes.

A proud Welshman living between England and Scotland, Owain currently provides marketing support and consultancy services to a broad range of businesses across the UK. With a strong background of self employment in the IT, Advertising and Adventure industries, Owain is currently sharing his experience and enthusiasm for Marketing with the Eigg Box on the Isle of Eigg. Working and living on the island, Owain is actively engaging with the diverse range of creative businesses based there, and helping them develop robust and measurable marketing strategies to facilitate growth.

Working with the Eigg Box is a unique opportunity for me to work with and support a broad range of businesses. It is a fantastic platform for me to share the professional knowledge and experience I have gained during my career. I am also equally excited to be working with ScreenHi on the delivery of the 'Mirco Sales Programme'. The two day workshop will be a faced paced and vibrant introduction to planning successful sales and marketing strategies.

Travel by ferry on Monday 13th with session taking place in afternoon to early evening. Travel back on Tuesday 14th after some morning networking. Accommodation costs will be covered as will a contributuon to travel costs. Places are limited and the deadline for registering interest is Monday 6th April 2015.

This is a chance for cross genre practitioners to meet and find potential collaborations. Owain Wyn-Jones, Marketing Consultant, will be attended so a good chance to pick his brains about how to promote your business and increase sales and opportunities.

17th & 18th April, Cothrom, Ormiclate, South Uist, 10am - 5pm (tea & coffee at 9.30am)
RADIO SKILLS: SCHEDULING FOR RADIO & CREATING ENGAGING CONTENT FOR RADIO AND ONLINE

This two-day workshop will look at the end-to-end process of how to schedule and make radio content The first day will focus on programming, looking at breaking down a broadcast hour and filling it with engaging content ensuring it’s balanced out with music and features.  The second day is hands on and practical where you will learn the technical side of recording, editing and packaging actual content that can be used for broadcast.

Although these are set up as two separate training days it is recommended that you do both and register for both.

This is a chance for cross genre practitioners to meet,find potential collaborations and brainstorm ideas.  Dabster Productions will be also on hand to answer any burning radio broadcasting questions but this is open to any creative practitioner to come along and network.
