We're talking animators, designers, band managers, musicians, filmmakers, tour managers, producers, writers, games developers and programmers to name but a few. In the Highlands of Scotland Honeycomb is being rolled out in Lochaber, Skye and Lochalsh, Argyll and Bute. A contribution to travel and accommodation expenses is available to those from within the catchment area. Contact us for more information and to outline your situation. Honeycomb is also being delivered in Arran and Cumbrae, North Ayrshire mainland, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway, the six southern border counties of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Come and join us, and fellow creative practitioners from the area, for an evening of networking, sharing ideas and learning more about Honeycomb – Creative Works.  Scottish Documentary Institute will also be on hand to tell you about their fantastic programme designed to help filmmakers make that leap into industry – Bridging The Gap This isn’t just for filmmakers but a chance for cross genre practitioners to meet and find potential collaborations.

Bridging the Gap is one of the leading documentary new talent initiatives in the UK, offering

intensive training, a cash budget and chances of international distribution for short documentary projects made by up-and-coming Scottish talent. In preparation for their annual call for applications for Bridging the Gap, Scottish Documentary Institute invite you to meet up and discuss your short documentary ideas.

They will be showing examples of past Bridging the Gap work, explaining the aims of the scheme and how to improve your chances to be short-listed. Please bring along an idea for a short documentary and learn how to develop and focus your proposal and pitching skills Scottish Documentary Institute is an internationally recognised documentary research and production centre based in Edinburgh. Come and join us, and fellow creative practitioners from the area, for an evening of networking, sharing ideas and learning more about Honeycomb – Creative Works Stuart Fleming from PRS for Music will also be on hand to discuss licensing and royalty collection, and Iain Hamilton, Head of Creative Industries at Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), will offer an overview of the sector and discuss the various ways HIE are supporting the creative industries across the Honeycomb area. Digital Content Creators - this is for you!
 Writers, graphic designers, musicians, band managers, agents, programmers, digital artists, animators, composers, the list goes on and on and on Would you like to maximise your potential to win tenders?  We’ll provide real-time info on tender opportunities, build partnerships with companies across the three Honeycomb countries with a view to developing joint tendering submissions. Remote Streaming & Content Creation, Eigg Studio, 12noon – 4pm
Dougal Perman of Inner Ear, producers of innovative live streaming event Sound to Sea, Walking Head audio tours and internet radio station Radio Magnetic leads this workshop discussion on getting your music and digital content to a wider and more engaged audience and using the digital space to learn and collaborate.

Dougal’s presentation takes place in Eigg Studio, a new recording studio built by island musician Damian Helliwell in his strawbale house on the Isle of Eigg.   The session will include a chance to look round the studio and find out a bit about the music being made and recorded there by Damian and other musicians.

Dougal Perman Biography
Dougal is a producer, director, writer and content creator. He co-founded digital media production company Inner Ear in 2000. They launched the UK's longest running internet radio station, Radio Magnetic, in March 2001. Inner Ear specialises in content creation and communication. They make audio, video, text, image and interactive content and market them through online PR and social media channels He presents the Magnetism radio show on Radio Magnetic, sometimes play live music and DJ in bars, clubs and festivals. He likes writing, both tweets and blogs. He loves learning about new technology, and considering how it can be use and is passionate about music, arts and culture.  He loves hearing and telling stories. Please Note:  We realise that by holding this event on Eigg in the evening we have an accommodation issue for non residents as there are no ferries off the island after 4.30pm. We want to encourage as many people as we can from the surrounding area as well as Eigg. If you want to come to the evening networking then there are limited beds available in Glebe Barn being offered to those from within the catchment area. This practical workshop will see the team from Kinetic Studios cover the ins and outs of getting a great live sound. How can new artists develop their audience, manage their digital strategy, start to build an effective team, better monetise their output and attract interest from industry partners.

Getting your Digital Content out there
If you’re a digital content producer and haven’t yet dipped your toe in the online content world, this session will give you an overview of what’s out there and how to go about it. Publishing, monetising and protecting your online content, and which platform to align with; all questions some producers struggle with in the online world and the key areas we’ll be touching on. Understanding the importance of trends, the online conversation and how that differs from traditional content consumption; getting content noticed; audience development vs commissioning. To discuss we’ll have indie producers making content specifically for online, platform reps and content aggregators.

Technology and the creative industries are now so interlinked it’s almost impossible to think how they worked before In the last 15 years music has undergone a huge transformation due to new gadgets and software, from the recording, mixing and production through to the distribution, retailing and listening In film and TV, the rise of platforms like YouTube and Netflix are changing the way we consume and produce visual media. And the same, rapid, ever-increasing changes are happening in books, games and radio too. How do you keep up? What, in fact, do you need to keep up with, given all the choices? In this session we take a look at the extraordinary changes happening within the creative industries due to technology and give some insight and predictions for the future.

Neil Cartwright, Million Media
Former Head of New Media at Sony Music UK, Neil is now MD of digital marketing agency Million Media where his clients have included Jamiroquai, Channel4, MIDEM, The Prodigy, Ministry Of Sound, Trinity Films, Avalon TV Productions, ITB, and The Orchard Named in the Courvoisier Future 500 as one of 500 people who will help shape the future of the UK.

Joe McAlinden, Singer-Songwriter
Joe is a classically trained singer-songwriter who writes and records music from a studio in Argyll.  He recently released a new Edwyn Collins-produced solo album, Bleached Highlights, on AED Records.  His band, Superstar, were signed to Creation Records in 1992 by Alan McGee and released seven albums in eight years.  He has played/written/collaborated with Rod Stewart, Teenage Fanclub, Big Star/Alex Chilton, Eugene Kelly (The Vaselines), The Boy Hairdressers, NOM, BMX Bandits, Matthew Sweet, artists Jim Lambie and Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard, novelist Alan Warner, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, Brianna Corrigan (The Beautiful South).  He has also written for Channel Five, Disney ABC, Sky One, Sky Sports, Sky HD and Vodafone.

Ally Gray, EmuBands
Ally  is Managing Director and co-founder of digital distribution company EmuBands.  He also sits on the board of the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA).  In addition to these roles, Ally is an experienced promoter and artist manager; he also regularly lectures at colleges and universities on both the music industry in general and digital distribution specifically.

Robert Hicks, Middle of Nowhere Recordings
Rob has been at the vanguard of Scotland’s live sector for over 12 years, and was was instrumental in founding Rock Ness, Loopallu, and establishing Belladrum as a key fixture on the festival calendar. He is also a partner in the Ironworks venue in Inverness. Adding a management strand to his business in 2010 to represent acclaimed singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni, this development has led to the launch of his own label with Rachel, called Middle of Nowhere Recordings.

Helen Chalmers, The Wickerman Festival
Helen is the Festival Co-ordinator for The Wickerman Festival. Wickerman attracts an audience in excess of 15,000, and as Co-ordinator, Helen oversees all the elements required to produce one of the country’s most successful and diverse live events.

Panellists – Getting Your Digital Content Out There

Nick Lockey, Maverick TV
Nick is a successful development producer working across broadcast and digital media. As a core member of Maverick Television's multiplatform team with over a decade's experience in the industry, he has worked on a huge range of award-winning projects spanning TV shows, games, online drama, apps, web video, social media campaigns and online editorial. As well as working with broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Discovery and Sky, Nick has also developed content for brands, corporate clients, academic institutions and public sector organisations.

Nick regularly lectures on multiplatform development and has delivered seminars, talks and workshops for clients including The BBC, Microsoft, Channel 4, ITV, The Media Trust, The Royal Television Society, The University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University and the South by Southwest Interactive Festival.

James E. Marks, Screenage Renegade:
A founder member of Digital Creators UK and indie social video entertainment provocateur, James E. Marks, has associate produced a variety of original YouTube creator projects such as Ashens & The Quest For The Game Child – The Movie, Lee Hardcastle’s A Good Clay To Die HardClay Cat’s Hitman Absolution, Harry Partridge’s, blockbuster Skyrim cartoons and CIM award-winning British Red Cross social video for social good project featuring top UK YouTube creators Ali-A, KickthePJ, Danisnotonfire, AmazingPhil, Crabstickz, Sprinkleofglitter, PointlessBlog, Marcus Butler and TomSka.

Derek Bateman, Blogger/Journalist
Derek is a political blogger focused on Scottish affairs. He also runs batemanbroadcasting.com where political figures are interviewed for both internet radio and YouTube He has 45 years experience as a journalist on broadsheet titles and at the BBC where he was a presenter concentrating on radio. He has reported from 20 countries and twice presented coverage of the US Presidential elections from Washington. He made documentaries on the handover of Hong Kong and the US election in the Deep South. He was BBC radio presenter for most Scottish elections from the mid-nineties onwards and led the live coverage of the opening of the Parliament in 1999 Specialisms include European affairs, reporting from Brussels and Strasbourg, and the Irish Troubles. Last year he won the Broadcast category in the Scottish Refugee Week Awards. He lives in Glasgow.

David Thomson, Ludometrics
David founded Ludometrics, an independent games company, in May 2010 (on World Metrology Day, no less). To date Ludometrics has released games for iPhone, PC and Facebook, and David has  worked on projects for Nokia, the Comedy Unit and a continuing award-winning partnership internationally renowned art house, Cryptic. David has been at the forefront of the Scottish games industry for over 15 years across all platforms having worked on more than 100 titles with companies such as Disney, SEGA, Panasonic, Hasbro and Microsoft. Ludometrics is currently at work on Bodycheck, an original game for Sony’s PS Vita platform in conjunction with Sony Europe’s Strategic Content team, along with games for other platforms. David is the Games and Apps Adviser for Cultural Enterprise Office, sits on the Creative Skillset National Board for Scotland and is a BAFTA member.
