About

Performer, composer and teacher Fraya Thomsen's enthusiasm for the Scottish small harp was first fuelled during attendance at Feis Rois She went on to graduate with honours from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and performing with Fiona Hunter and Cloud 9 before starting musical duo The Duplets with Gillian Fleetwood With the release of two albums, Tree of Strings and Leverage, The Duplets have toured internationally performing in the US, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland and Slovenia Festivals closer to home have included Celtic Connections, The Green Man Festival, Blas and the London Folk Fest.

Working as Musician In Residence with Feis Rois in 2011-2012 saw Fraya running Scottish music making workshops with community groups throughout the Highlands and winning a Creative Scotland Innovation award for one of the projects she helped deliver In 2012 she released a trilogy of harp books compiled of her own compositions for various levels of players She has recorded tutorial material for Learning Teaching Scotland and Taigh Na Teud Alongside composing for a short film The Worm Inside her solo commissions include Distil Scotland and she has been composer-in-residence for The Ceol Mor Big Band. Fraya is presently a composition student at the National Film and Television School with the ambition of writing for film and television on graduation.
