Amanda Millen
Director, ScreenHI & goNORTH Festival
Amanda Millen started her broadcast career at Sabhal Mor Ostaig where she undertook the Diploma in Broadcasting set up and managed by the Urras Treinidh (Gaelic Television Training Trust) in its early years This course was entirely through the medium of Gaelic and whilst Amanda is a learner of the language, she has mastered it to fluency over many years and is completely comfortable in using it at an informal and formal level Amanda is known and acknowledged within the Gaelic and Broadcasting community as a fluent Gaelic speaker.
Although Amanda has taken part in many Gaelic programmes as a contributor on television and radio the bulk of her broadcast career has been in making network English language programmes As a trainee Amanda worked on schedule stalwarts like High Road and FunHouse at Scottish Television She then moved into the freelance world as Production Coordinator, Researcher and Manager working on films like Ratcatcher and network shows for Channel4 like Equinox Amanda then produced some of her own short dramas and moved to the Drama department at BBC Scotland as Production Executive working on network dramas like Monarch of the Glen, Sea of Souls and more recently River City and Waterloo Road As well as her career in television Amanda also has a Diploma in Teaching and has delivered many different kinds of workshops/training and classes over the years, from ‘drama’ to ‘how to run a committee’ Amanda has also done various radio programmes most recently presenting a live music show for BBC Scotland.
Olivia Rodger
Project Manager, ScreenHI & goNORTH Festival
Olivia moved to the Highlands in February 2011 after 13 years living and working in Glasgow She spent 11 of those years working in television production at BBC Scotland, prior to which she worked with Scottish Ballet in development.
Strictly speaking the first year with the BBC she worked in the Educational Policy Unit, the middle liaison between the internal education programme makers and the external advisory bodies and schools From there she moved into her first production role in Arts and Entertainment as the departmental Production Secretary.
After a year she moved directly into television production working as a Production Co-ordinator initially, and then as a Production Manager as her career progressed She spent many years working on a wide range of programming mainly for BBC1 & BBC2 network and regional commissions, as well as BBC3 and BBC ALBA, in Arts, Entertainment, Gaelic, Factual and eventually Specialist Factual documentaries.
Credits include EX:S, Artworks, Timeflyers, Film 2004 with Jonathan Ross, Ralf Little’s Edinburgh Comedy, The Edinburgh Review, Horizon, Coast, Eorpa, De a Nis, Jimmy’s Farming Heroes and Jimmy’s Food Factory.
Olivia has a solid knowledge of end-to-end television production, is committed to always developing her personal and professional skills and fully believes that no-one ever stops learning.
Tom Duncan
Content Producer, ScreenHI & goNORTH Festival
Tom Duncan is a freelance producer/director shooting factual content for broadcast and business ScreenHI first came in contact with Tom at the Moray Film Festival after which he was offered a work placement with Young Films for their short film Tumult He writes and develops drama with a view to eventually producing broadcast and feature film productions in his home area of Moray His debut short 'Joose' was nominated for a BAFTA New Talent Award in March 2012.
Tom studied Screen Project Development at Edinburgh Napier University, graduating in 2009, and has directed content for clients as diverse as BBC Learning, Central Station, Business Gateway and Shelter Scotland He maintains an active role in the local creative community, producing projects with Creative Moray, a voluntary development group set up to improve collaboration in the Moray area.
Tom's background is in teaching and he continues to lead youth workshops and filmmaking programmes across the Moray area through both Eden Court Theatre and the Moray Art Centre.
He is currently developing his drama portfolio and is keen to find actors for upcoming short film and music video projects.
Edit Indiepreneur Role
The Edit Indiepreneur role is based on a 6 month contract with ScreenHI to deliver an agreed amount of craft edit based work It is designed to prepare the candidate for freelance industry life while learning how to manage an edit suite, develop storytelling skills through editing films and showing some creative flair To date we have had three Edit Indiepreneurs:
